Korea yanggeum master
윤은화는 양금 연주가·작곡가·교육자이자 양금 제작자이다. 직접 개발한 56음 개량양금 특허를 기반으로 연주 기법과 창작 레퍼토리를 확장해왔으며, 한국 최초로 전자양금을 도입해 looping과 다양한 이펙터를 활용한 독창적인 음악을 선보이고 있다.
중앙대학교 음악학 박사인 윤은화는 현재 세계양금협회 이사, 한국양금협회 회장, 국제양금예술연합회 부회장, 아시아양금협회 부회장, 밴드 동양고주파 멤버로 활동하고 있다. 또한 명지대학교 겸임교수를 비롯해 한국예술종합학교, 한양대학교, 숙명여자대학교, 단국대학교, 이화여자대학교 등 여러 대학에서 후학을 양성하며 차세대 양금 연주자들을 배출하고 있다.
대표작 〈양금시나위〉를 비롯해 〈양금산조〉, 〈양금굿〉, 〈양금사물놀이〉, 〈양금병창〉 등 다양한 작품을 발표하며, 기존 양금에서 쉽게 시도되지 않았던 형식을 확장하고 전통의 깊이와 동시대적 감각이 공존하는 새로운 양금 음악의 방향성을 제시하고 있다.
미국 Lincoln Center 공식 초청 공연을 비롯해, 세계 최대 규모의 월드뮤직 마켓인 WOMEX에 2년 연속 선정되었으며, 스페인 음악 마켓 MMVV, Mission Folk Music Festival, Rainforest World Music Festival, WOMAD Chile, WOMAD Italy 등 세계 주요 무대에 초청되어 공연해왔다. 다양한 국제 협업을 통해 한국 양금의 가능성을 넓혀가고 있으며, 제17회 세계양금축제를 한국에서 개최하고 세계 최초의 세계양금콩쿠르를 기획하며 국제 양금 교류의 새로운 기반을 마련하였다.
개인 창작 활동으로는 한국문화예술위원회 공연예술창작산실 올해의신작 선정작 〈구라철사금 : 打〉, 여우락 페스티벌 선정작 〈FAVE〉, 서울문화재단 예술창작활동지원 선정작 〈FE〉, 전통공연예술진흥재단 전통예술 컨템퍼러리 창작지원 아티스트 선정작 〈2FACE〉, 수림문화재단 수림뉴웨이브 아티스트 선정작 〈무경계〉 등 주요 프로젝트에서 전곡 작·편곡 및 연주를 맡아왔다. 또한 국립국악관현악단을 비롯한 전국 주요 국악관현악단 및 오케스트라와 수백 회의 협연 무대를 이어오며, 자신의 창작 작품과 레퍼토리를 지속적으로 확장해가고 있다.
정규 1집 앨범 《BORDERLESS》, 정규 2집 《FE》를 비롯해 싱글 《양금산조》, 《양금굿》, 《바람의 노래》등을 발표했으며, 동양고주파의 정규 1집 《곡면》, 정규 2집 《결》, 《RED》 등 다수의 음반 작업에 작·편곡 및 연주로 참여하였다. 또한 2021 수림뉴웨이브 대상, 2015 전주세계소리축제 소리프론티어 대상, 2017 문화체육관광부 아시아파워브랜드 대상(악기 제작 부문) 등을 수상하며, 현재도 양금이라는 악기의 경계를 확장하며 동시대 음악 안에서 한국 양금의 새로운 가능성을 만들어가고 있다.
Yun Eun Hwa is a Korean yanggeum performer, composer, educator, and instrument developer. Based on her patented 56-note Modern Yanggeum, which she personally developed, she has expanded both performance techniques and contemporary repertoire for the instrument. She is also the first musician in Korea to incorporate an electronic yanggeum into her practice, creating distinctive works through live looping and experimental effects-based sound design.
Holding a Ph.D. in Korean Music from Chung-Ang University, Yun currently serves as a board member of the World Yanggeum Association, President of the Korean Yanggeum Association, Vice President of the International Yanggeum Arts Federation, Vice President of the Asia Yanggeum Association, and a member of Dongyang Gozupa. She also teaches the next generation of performers at Myongji University, Korea National University of Arts, Hanyang University, Sookmyung Women's University, Dankook University, and Ewha Womans University.
Her major original works include Yanggeum Sinawi, Yanggeum Sanjo, Yanggeum Gut, Yanggeum Samulnori, and Yanggeum Byeongchang. Through these works, she continues to expand forms rarely explored on the yanggeum while presenting a new artistic direction where Korean tradition meets contemporary sensibilities.
Yun has performed internationally at major stages including Lincoln Center, and was selected for WOMEX for two consecutive years. She has also been invited to perform at MMVV, Mission Folk Music Festival, Rainforest World Music Festival, WOMAD Chile, and WOMAD Italy. She further expanded global exchange by hosting the 17th World Yanggeum Festival in Korea and organizing the world’s first World Yanggeum Competition.
Her major creative projects include Guracheolsageum: Ta, selected by the Arts Council Korea Performing Arts Creation Program; FAVE, selected by Yeowoorak Festival; FE, supported by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture; 2FACE, selected by the Korea Traditional Performing Arts Foundation; and Mugyeonggye (Boundaryless), selected by the Soorim Foundation. She has also appeared in hundreds of concerto performances with major Korean traditional orchestras and symphony orchestras across Korea.
Her discography includes her full-length albums BORDERLESS and FE, as well as the singles Yanggeum Sanjo, Yanggeum Gut, and Song of Wind. She has also participated as a composer, arranger, and performer on Dongyang Gozupa’s albums Surface, KYUL, and RED.
Her honors include the Grand Prize at the Soorim New Wave (2021), the Grand Prize at the Jeonju Sori Festival Sori Frontier (2015), and the Asia Power Brand Award from Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Instrument Development Division, 2017). She continues to redefine the boundaries of the yanggeum and shape new possibilities for Korean music in contemporary performance.
